Jesus tells us in Matthew 23 that tithing and "weightier matters of the law" such as "justice and mercy and faith" must be observed since "appear[ing] beautiful outwardly like whitewashed tombs" is not as important as being clean on the inside. Being a portrait of a servant is conducting ourselves as God ordains. Paul explains in Galatians 5.13 that servants serve through love by God's will.
